Screening for beta-galactosidase producing bacteria (blue colonies)

Coldzymes has patented two cold-active enzymes:

  • β-galactosidase (beta-D-galactoside galactohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.23) isolated from a bacterium, Alkalilactibacillus ikkensis from the Ikka Fjord in Greenland. The enzyme has more than 60% activity at 0 °C. The enzyme and its applications have been patented (WO2010/092057).
  • α-amylase (alpha-1,4-glucan-4-glucanohydrolases, E.C.3.2.1.1) isolated from a metagenomerepresenting DNA isolated from ikaite tufe columns from the Ikka Fjord in Greenland. The enzyme has more than 70% relative activity at 0 °C. The enzyme and its applications have been patented (WO/2015/165472).

Furthermore, Coldzymes has access to microorganisms from cold environments in Greenland and can develop other cold-active enzymes.
